Bali
Today, Bali is celebrating metal’s birthday. Its inhabitants have decorated everything metal (mostly things that go) with a little happy corn husk doll. Monday will bring the Balinese equivalent of Mardi Gras, where floats are built to resemble demons and then drowned in the sea. That night, there is a large party; the following day, everyone stays inside. The logic goes that if you throw a rager, the evil spirits will hear about it and come to hang out. Because they are lazy as well as evil, they will not arrive on time. When they arrive to find everyone inside their houses, they think they got the address wrong, but are still determined to party, and so head off around the world to find another place to do so. Presto! No evil spirits for a year.
